Below is a link to a paper I found on the IPOA website that complements Don Mayer's assessment on private military involvement. As the author of this piece affirms, the private [military] sector is the 'invisible elephant' in the room when it comes to conflict mitigation and peace building through commerce. The PTC movement is gaining momentum, yet militaries still have other very important priorities. This is why private militaries would be the ideal actors to foster peace and commerce in conflict-ridden nations. Attaining such virtues as transparency will also help eliminate the stigma attached with being called "mercenaries."
