I have developed the Countrystyle Community Tourism Village programme as the sustainable way forward for community tourism in Jamaica and the Caribbean and have been building capacity for this programme in association with the IIPT Caribbean chapter over the last 10 years and pioneered community tourism over 37 years ago.
I own and operate a small hotel called The Astra Country Inn in the mountains of Jamaica 2000 feet above sea level which is the Home of Countrystyle Community Tourism - we train communities here in basic hospitality skills, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and how to be a good Ambassador for their country - this has resulted in them getting employment or being entrepreneurs in their own environment.
