Source of my passion about the power of business to fight poverty
I am a social entrepreneur
About my work:
I am keen to see the African Continent as a destination for investment, rather than charity, and am currently investigating the viability of a Micro Investment Fund for Africa which would enable members of the Diaspora or the wider general public invest small sums of money in African Businesses on African Stock Markets. Currently, investing in Africa is for an elite minority with many thousands of pounds to invest.
I believe that by opening up the accessibility of investing in the African continent it will change people's perceptions of the Continent.
We create our world by the way we talk about it, and if more people start talking about how they are getting a good return on their (albeit small) investment, more people will come to realise that many good things are happening across the continent, despite what the media seems to say.
I am not, however, an "Investment person" and this is what I need to take this to the next level. Any suggestions, ideas and contacts very welcome.
