About my work:
My research on business and peace issues began in 2000 when I fortuitously stumbled on Jane Nelson's report 'The Business of Peace'. Since then, I've worked on CSR issues in Australian State Government positions, focused a Masters in International Diplomacy on 'Business and Peace' issues and am currently doing a Phd. My Phd explores the actual and potential role of transnational corporations (TNCs), specifically those in the oil and mining industries, in assisting peace processes in intra-state conflict. This can include for example, advocacy and mobilising business support for peace; providing economic advice for peace negotiations; shuttle diplomacy; organising or joining 'peace' focused business organisations; assisting conflict resolution meetings/workshops between conflict parties at the local level or even national level mediations between conflict parties. I am also analysing case-studies of 'corporate peacemaking'. While my interest lies in the full spectrum of conflict phases, I specifically focus on pre- and during conflict. I am currently also teaching in such areas as global political economy, conflict resolution and International Relations. And of course, looking forward to completing the Phd!
