Hi Everyone,

This week we look again at issues of Doing Business in Conflict Zones. Throughout the eConference, tourism has come up again and again as an industry with a particular interest in and history in promoting peace. Our moderator this week has been immersed in exactly this dimension of tourism for a long time. Timothy MarshallContinue

Welcome to Theme 3: What It Will Take To Manifest Peace Through Commerce

Over the past couple of weeks, we have had some postings and some private emails asking if there were available some conceptual frameworks that would help to analyze the issues of business and peace. This week begins several weeks of presenting just those kinds of frameworks and more overarching conceptions of what might be possible.

Our moderator this week is ZoeContinue

Lack of sufficient capital and mismanagement are serious obstacles in the road to build good corporate govenance and better commerce. We can cope with these problems through huge external and internal investments in various potential areas such as tourism, hydropower and agriculture and good management practice in everywhere. Only sound corporate governance culture and practice ensures investors and good and responsible management for better oppertunity of commerce. So lets think on the urgent issue for better future.

I think the discussion today is focusing on issues whose solution will not be directly relevant to the fight against poverty, as if we should save or not to big corporations whose assets owned or belonged to few.

elena, how we should consider the public and private investment to help reduce the problems affecting the poorest sectors of our country in times of crisis?

This is an interesting conversation. I appreciate the pro-active stance of positively seeing how business can be part of the solution, which I think it can.

We take the power of the marketplace and apply it to triple bottom line efforts for social, community, and environmental betterment. There is money to be made by 'doing well and doing good'. The challenge in that stakeholders (ie people) who are most experienced at saving the world, do not often speak the same language or trust those who are best at selling things. There needs to be more bridge-building between populations and help identifying the common ground.
