Source of my passion about the power of business to fight poverty
I am an entrepreneur, I am a social entrepreneur, I work for a company, I am just interested

Industry:
Entertainment / Finance & Accounting
About my work:
I am an accounting major with a B.S Degree. Professionally and career wise, I am an Accounting Manager in the area of Accounts Payable & Tax Reporting.

I started the Caribbean Music Alliance two years ago because of the burden and passion that I have always had for helping my fellow Caribbean nationals to better themselves. I am also an avid music lover so it only made sense to me to link the two. The CMA provides back-office business services to Caribbean artists in an effort to assist them in maintaining a steady income from their craft. The Caribbean music genre is not in the major mainstream markets; as such these artists find it difficult to stay busy in the industry.

My work with the Alliance is two fold, while we work with getting this music out in the mainsttream; we are also focused on organizing major benefit concert tours featuring the artists in our network. The CMA profit after expenses is gifted to various organizations in the Caribbean to better the living conditions of the poverty stricken in these countries.
Most recently we have partnered with the Judy Mowatt Outreach Ministries to provide, food, clothing, and medical supplies to the poor and needy in the rural areas of Jamaica.

Caribbean Artist Join Forces with the CMA to Fight Against Poverty In the Ghetto's of Jamaica

JUDY MOWATT, NORRIS WEIR, DOBBY DOBSON, CLIVE TENNOR, GODDY GODDY, & ISIAH MENTOR JOIN FORCES WITH SOUTH FLORIDA NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY IN JAMAICA’S INNER-CITIES & GHETTOS

Caribbean Music Alliance, Inc. has organized a fifteen month U.S. benefit concert tour, “One-Love Unity Fest” to raise funds to fight against the growing poverty rate in Jamaica’s Inner-Cities & Ghettos. The economical and sociological conditions in the county of Jamaica are alarmingly poor. As a result, crime is at an all time high in the country and many of the citizens, especially those living in the Ghettos and Inner-Cities are forced to live in unthinkable conditions. Children are going to bed hungry and single mothers are forced into prostitution to provide a meal for their hungry children. Many Youths are turned out on the streets to fin for themselves, ultimately turning to gangs and a life of crime as a means of survival.

In third world countries such as Jamaica, there are no governmental programs to provide assistance to the poor and needy, (as we are so privileged & accustomed to have in the United States). The disadvantage citizens of these countries rely heavily on their relatives living outside of the country to send money, food, clothing, etc… that they are not able to obtain for themselves.

“While no one company or organization can single handedly wipe out the existence of poverty in Jamaica, we (The CMA), are making a conscious effort to do our part to lead a much needed fight against it by bringing awareness of the issues and working together with the Caribbean Artists and other organizations to raise funds to aid the people of Jamaica”, stated Rosemarie Mitchell, President and Founder of the organization.

The kick-off event for the fifteen month “One-Love Unity Fest” benefit concert tour is scheduled to be held on February 15, 2009 in Ft. Lauderdale Florida.

Hello Rosemary,

I was just passing through and though the concert is such an innovative way of raising awareness of poverty. It’s only unfortunate that the tour doesn’t get to Kenya!

I especially empathise with the plight of Jamaican youth as the situation is exactly the same here. Assisting them certainly benefits the entire country.

The concert tour certainly sounds like a mammoth task… good luck and keep me posted.

Best wishes, Fiona

Thanks Rosemarie,
We are very keen to work together with organisations such as yours, too, and we promote cooperation. Also we are compiling a directory of women's organisations and groups, so please do send me any details you wish, and if you know if any regional women's groups nearby we'd love to be able to include them. My email address is chris.crowstaff@womenforachange.org
My reply to you tonight was rather hasty, as I'm cooking at the same time!
I hope to write a lot more in the near future.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,
Chris

Hello Sister Rosemarie, and Greetings to you,
thank you so much for your lovely message, and very moving account of the incredible work you are doing.
By synchronicity, I watched a TV documentary only this morning about young women who are sold into prostitution and it so motivated me to want to do something about it.
I am also interested to read of your Carribean Music Alliance because Women for a Change is organising something, globally, along similar lines for the Centenary of International Women's Day, 2011.
You are most welcome to join our community, Rosemary, and your input there would be highly valued. Likewise, we don't know what the outcome will be of launching our Foundation but, as you say, we have to do something! And i'm sure that, by connecting together, as women throughout the world, we can do so much!
Our address is www.womenforachange.ning.com
Thanks so much for accepting my friend invite - I look forward very much to connecting with you more.
Blessings,
Chris
