Business Call to Action: Vodafone - mobile banking

The UK Government and UNDP hosted the Business Call to Action event on 6 May 2008, inviting Chief Executives and Board Chairs from some of the world’s largest companies to showcase concrete initiatives that support economic growth and reduce poverty in developing countries.

This video showcases Vodafone's breakthrough mobile money transfer service - M-PESA - in Kenya, Afghanistan and Tanzania.

Vodafone has plans to launch in India within a year where it could reach over 40 million customers. Vodafone is also exploring new markets in Sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia.

Vodafone is developing the M-PESA platform to support a range of new services including international remittances, salary payments, merchant services and bill payments.

Moblie banking is indeed very good, I am happy that Uganda has borrowed the idea from Kenya Safari com, This will help in making our traditonally slow banks fast in service delivery as you do not need to pay a hell of money to send money to a person within Uganda as it is common with other banks.

Also the line in some banks is really long and the slowness of the bank tellers even makes time more lost and yet Time is a big resource. I believe this has tried solving the issue.

My gretesf fear surrounds the current plans to start taping information by Ugandan Government if it will promote secrets in transaction and promotes safety!!.

However this is a good approach towards ensuring the customers get a range of friendly services that is even accessed in seconds. Thanks to MTN for this initiative.
