Event Description

Event sponsored by Shell

Partnerships between businesses, governments and development actors are tackling constraints in the investment climates of developing economies and helping business to invest in ways that contribute more to development. What can government do to best support business? And how can business help governments to build capacity and develop appropriate policy? What is the role of donors? What barriers to partnership exist between these stakeholders?

This event, the sixth in the series on ‘Harnessing the power on business for development Impact’, will explore progress being made to create the incentives and effective institutional frameworks that make it easier to do business and invest in developing countries, and encourage transparency, good governance and innovation. How are initiatives such as the Investment Climate Facility (ICF), and challenge funds helping governments and business to advance business and development goals?

John ALI Comment by John ALI on June 18, 2009 at 5:59pm
Hi,
My name is John Ali, from Ghana, I would have love to attend the meeting but the time of notice of the meeting got to me rather a bit behind time.
However, I will like to add a few commentary to the topic under consideration taking into cognisance typical situations in my country Ghana.
I believe that Government has a very big role to play, this is literally because here in our country there is an arm of government responsible for legislature. Legislature that establish various institutions that provide one service or the other. As a first step legislature establishing these institutions and their powers ought to be looked at, a more definite approaches would have to be developed, a quicker response to demands and request, innovations out to be introduced to remove bureaucracies. I also beleive that we are lacking behind in terms of E-Governance. Government must should be seen by civil society as spearheading a more fruitful collaboration with private companies or businesses notwithstanding your political affiliation, because this is one thing that collapses one business and establishes a new one. Civil society, private businsses muat also collaborate to fight corruption, a collective action.
Thank you
